Check out this beauty - the Flinders Cypress house! We’ve posted about this one before but are now sharing Willem Dirk’s beautiful photography that makes it worthy of its own post.
Since their wedding in the charming town of Flinders on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, this couple has been enchanted by the area. Over the years, no other spot along the stunning coastline could compare to that memorable day.
To realize their design dreams, they enlisted the help of Melbourne-based architecture firm Insider Outsider. Where, co-owner of Loreco Matt Westle, took on the role of builder, co-shared their vision for creating sustainable, light-filled sanctuary that embodied the relaxed coastal lifestyle.
Insider Outsider brought a strong emphasis on sustainable and practical living to the project. Their mutual commitment to eco-friendly design is clearly reflected in the finished home. Reclaimed materials were used wherever possible, especially timber, with the exterior clad in recycled CERES Fair Wood's Macrocarpa Cypress, recycled spotted gum flooring, and a kitchen island made from recycled blackwood. This focus on salvaged timber contributes to a warm, intentionally rustic aesthetic, allowing natural light to showcase the materials’ beauty throughout the year.
The design features framed views of the sky and landscape, creating a sense of being enveloped in a private sanctuary. The surrounding trees provide shade in summer while letting sunlight filter in during winter. The family can enjoy evenings by the outdoor fireplace or cozy up in built-in reading nooks. The kitchen serves as the heart of the home, featuring a calming blend of reclaimed timber and stainless steel, alongside a generous walk-in pantry and concealed full-height cupboards.
Insider Outsider excels in integrating indoor and outdoor living in coastal Victoria. The owners, who had high expectations from the start, are thrilled with the outcome.
The Flinders Cypress house boasts over 400sqm of shiplap cladding and over 100sqm of boards and screening in the Macrocarpa - entirely salvaged timber cladding that has been given a new lease on life here in this beautiful home.We love the aesthetic of Insider Outsider and Loreco who lean into embracing timber in their designs and builds.

We are very honoured to have contributed to this very worthy project by supplying our Macrocarpa cladding used throughout the exterior of the build.

Little Granite House by BRD Studio
Take a look at our stunning Macrocarpa that has been used extensively as cladding, as well as posts, and beams in this off-grid beauty by BRD Studios, the Little Granite House, on Dhudhuroa Country, Wooragee. We love this build which is guided by passive solar and biophilic design philosophies and sits on a compact 100m2 footprint. It's an aspiring design and does a wonderful job at connecting its inhabitants with their surrounding environment, creating space to share and creating community.BRD Studios are one of those rare ones who both design and build their clients plans into reality and truly live by their values, a repeat customer with us. We love when architects and builders embrace sustainable design in its truest sense, which includes their timber supply. Something that is often overlooked.
